AHI Adviser Publishes on Lincoln and Obama
"Much has been written about what Mr. Obama thinks about Lincoln," writes John Stauffer in an essay coauthored with Henry Louis Gates. "But not much has been said about what Lincoln would think of Barack Hussein Obama." In an op-ed "A Pragmatic Precedent" in today's New York Times, Professor Stauffer, an academic adviser to the AHI, Professor of English, American Literature, and Language at Harvard University, and author of Giants: The Parallel Lives of Frederick Douglass and Abraham Lincoln (Twelve, 2008) imaginatively examines race and politics and how Lincoln's pragmatism might hold lessons for President Obama.
