The Alexander Hamilton Institute for the Study of Western Civilization (AHI) is pleased to announce its support of the Civics Alliance, a “coalition of education reformers, policymakers, and concerned citizens dedicated to preserving traditional civics education against the threat of New Civics.”  AHI friend Peter Wood, President, National Association of Scholars (NAS), announced the formation of the alliance in a rousing explanatory essay of 22 March 2021.  We encourage all AHI friends to read Dr. Wood’s essay.

The Civics Alliance consists of a broad-based initiative intended to impart knowledge, raise standards, strengthen disciplines as it promotes a well-rounded education for citizens young and old.  Those interested in supporting this effort can affix their signature to the open letter.

In a recent essay, Stanley Kurtz, senior fellow at the Ethics and Public Policy Center, discusses the initiative and identifies many of its signatories, which includes AHI President Robert Paquette. “The goals of the Civics Alliance,” Paquette observed, “mirror that of AHI’s own mission statement.  Attention to the unum that holds us together rather than the pluribus that is rending us apart is long overdue.  The Civics Alliance will not gloss over the civilizational failures as it reminds us of this country’s many great and noble accomplishments.  No culture in history has been more self-critical than Western culture.  The Civic Alliance intends to restore balance and integrity to the study of American ideals and institutions.  AHI is most pleased to be joining this effort.”
