In an essay for Real Clear Politics, Daniel Mahoney, Augustinian Boulanger Chair of Political Science, Assumption University, and Senior Fellow, The Alexander Hamilton Institute for the Study of Western Civilization (AHI), asked “What Does our Nation Mean to Us?”  His learned and powerful answer to that question attracted national attention.

The nationally syndicated Don Proft Show invited Dr. Mahoney to elaborate on his essay.  In a seventeen-minute interview, he discussed American principles and the current assault on them and on the Western tradition as a whole.  His comments centered on “the striking silence and cowardice of too many people of good will in responding to the militants and extremist groups.” As statues of Abraham Lincoln, Winston Churchill, George Washington, Frederick Douglass, and many others are defaced or toppled, he asks, “Why such pusillanimity in responding to the barbarians at the gates?”

Dr. Mahoney’s books include The Conservative Foundations of the Liberal Order (2011) and The Other Solzhenitsyn: Telling the Truth about a Misunderstood Writer and Thinker (2014).
