The James Wilson Institute on Natural Rights and the American Founding (JWI), located in Washington D.C., seeks to “restore to a new generation of lawyers, judges, and citizens the understanding of the American Founders about the first principles of our law and the moral grounds of their own rights.” On June 8, the Institute held its first public webinar. It featured Dr. Juliana Pilon, Senior Fellow of The Alexander Hamilton Institute for the Study of Western Civilization (AHI), who discussed her recent book The Utopian Conceit and the War on Freedom (Academica Press, 2019).
Dr. Pilon was questioned by Professor Hadley Arkes, founder and director of JWI and Professor Daniel Mahoney, Augustinian Boulanger Chair and Professor of Political Science, Assumption University. Dr. Mahoney is an AHI Senior Fellow, and Dr. Arkes is an AHI academic adviser. Both praise Dr. Pilon’s book as a “sparkling” work of erudition. It exemplifies, said Dr. Arkes, “the highest literary craft.”
